I'm
sure you are just dying to learn all you can about the
[YDK] Gaming Team.
In the beginning
there was Doom. Some of the members of YDK remember those days when a
few of us would play together either over a null serial connection or
on a network. Soon the Doom series gave way for Duke Nukem which with
a raunchy attitude, "PIG’s", and dancers how could you go wrong.
[YDK] didn't exist
yet, but the spirit did.
As the internet
became popular so did Quake and Quake CTF. The Cujo, CTF, and Cujo CTF
add-ons rocked. Shortly after that our members quickly adapted to
Quake 2 when it came out. We also started playing Quake 2 CTF. Our
play by this time was 25% internet and 75% LAN based. We also dabbled
in The Need For Speed, MotoRacer, Road Rash, Twisted Metal 2, and
several others.
Quake 2 was never
heard from again when a game called Half-Life came out. Little was
known at the time about it. Everyone heard a lot of talk about it
before it came out but little to no information was found on the web
about it. However once it was unleashed and we had it, we couldn't get
enough. We beat our buddies to death. We used games like Revolt and
Nascar as a resting period between frags.
By late winter of '99
we were doing a lot of online playing, and thus [YDK] was formed by
E-Rock and Dr. Feelgood at work one day so we could find each other
online when we went home that night. Our family and friends quickly
accepted the [YDK] acronym so they could play with us.
At the same time we
were eagerly awaiting Team Fortress Classic in April '99. This game as
we all know captured ALL of us who are in the Clan today. After
several years we still love playing it. And again we find ourselves
eagerly awaiting the vaporware Team Fortress 2.
UT was good for a go
but was short lived, same with Quake 3. It seemed the pure ‘team
death match’ game play was very tiresome.
A buddy of [YDK]Langer
(aka [YDK]Croughbar) said, hey a guy at work can’t stop talking about
this game – Rogue Spear. We tried it and we were hooked. Between the
realism and the lack of respawn it was a continuous challenge.
Our current chapter
brings us to Battlefield 1942. We are so hooked on how dynamic this
game is! We
became stunned with just the demo. The retail
version was released today 9/13/2002 (Friday the 13th)
depending on which store you went to. I picked up 3 copies for me and
two clan guys from BestBuy, Racine, WI., seeing this store was the only
one in South-Eastern Wisconsin. Try explaining a receipt of $158.00
for 3 copies of a game to your wife.
Anyways, that brings
you up to today. I’m sure I forgot to mention some games and people.
When you're gaming, and your most prideful piece of hardware isn’t your
computer, keyboard, or mouse but is your freshly opened beer, most
memories are of respawn rooms.
We've grown to an
average of 12 members. Not big compared to most clans, but our
members have all taken residence in South-Eastern Wisconsin at one
time or another, and are all friends of friends.
We don’t play very
well, but we can hold our team meetings at Hooters.
Can you?
